Drew Hughes Named B1G Wrestler of the Week
Redshirt sophomore Drew Hughes has been named Big Ten Conference Wrestler of the Week for Dec. 11 as announced by the league office on Tuesday. Hughes improved to 11-2 on the season and 2-0 in dual meets last Friday, earning a major decision over Indiana’s Jake Hinz, 11-0, to score the only bonus points of the dual.

Michigan State opens their home dual schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 28 against Buffalo. Last season, the Spartans defeated the Bulls by a final score of 18-17 via tiebreaker. Both teams scored 17 dual match points, but the Spartans earned more total match points, 63-58, for the tie-breaking point.

Westling Crowns Two at MSU Open
Michigan State started it’s 115th wrestling season off with a bang on Saturday, November 3, with two wrestlers finishing first in their respective weight classes. Sophomore Rayvon Foley won at 125 a season after taking second in the freshman/sophomore bracket and redshirt freshman Cameron Caffey took first at 184 after winning the freshman/sophomore bracket a year ago. Michigan State redshirt freshman wrestler Cameron Caffey earned two gold medals at the 2018 Junior Pan-American Championships in Fortaleza, Brazil over the weekend. Caffey earned Greco-Roman gold at 87 kg on Friday, August 17 prior to winning freestyle gold at 92kg on Sunday, August 19.

Omania defeated Tyler Eischens of Andover, Minnesota, an incoming freshman at Stanford, in the final at 152 pounds. The future Spartan rallied from a six-point deficit to secure an 8-7 victory.
