On Friday, the volleyball team will travel to Omaha, Nebraska to take on Missouri State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. This is the team’s 20th overall appearance in the tournament and seventh straight at-large bid.

Spartans Off to Omaha For NCAA Tournament
No. 10 Michigan State has earned an at-large bid to the 2016 NCAA Division I Volleyball Tournament and will take on Missouri State in the first round in Omaha, Nebraska on Friday. Games will be played at D.J. Sokol Arena inside the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center on the Creighton campus.

MSU Sweeps Indiana On Senior Night
No. 8 Michigan State closed out the home portion of its schedule with a commanding 3-0 victory over visiting Indiana (25-15, 25-12, 25-18). Following the match, the Spartans honored their seven seniors (Holly Toliver, Alyssa Garvelink, Megan Tompkins, Abby Monson, Rachel Minarick, Brooke Kranda, and Autumn Bailey) who played the final regular-season home game of their careers.

2 Michigan State athletes reportedly involved in moped accident
Two Michigan State student-athletes were reportedly involved in a car accident Thursday morning. A truck crashed into a pair of female students riding mopeds and both students were sent to the hospital, according to the Lansing State Journal. Michigan State’s student newspaper, The State News, reported the students involved in the crash were Samantha McLean and Mairi Fletcher. McLean is a sophomore on the women’s volleyball team, while Fletcher is a freshman on the field hockey team.

Minarick, Garvelink Earn CoSIDA All-District Honors
Seniors Rachel Minarick (Naperville, Ill.) and Alyssa Garvelink (Holland, Mich.) have been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Volleyball Teams. CoSIDA recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

Michigan State senior Autumn Bailey had 17 kills and hit .433 to help lead the No. 8 Spartans over visiting Illinois (25-18, 26-24, 25-19) on Friday night at Jenison Field House. MSU is now 18-6 on the year, and 11-4 in Conference action. Illinois falls to 18-8, and is 9-6 in B1G play.
