Michigan State and No. 5 Wisconsin waged an entertaining battle on Friday evening befitting the return of Big Ten volleyball action , as the Spartans upset the Badgers 3-2. (14-25, 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 15-13 ) The Badgers suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 9-1, while MSU improves to 8-2. The win snapped a streak of five straight victories in the series for Wisconsin, as MSU picked up its first win since Nov. 10, 2012 over UW.

Holly Toliver Helps Spartans to Sweep of Auburn
MSU picked up its second win of the 2017 season on Saturday afternoon, downing Auburn 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-20). The 17th-ranked Spartans are now 2-0, and Auburn falls to 1-1. The two teams put on a display of powerful, physical volleyball, with both teams taking big swings. MSU held the edge in kills (32-27), blocks (10-3), aces (10-4) and digs (49-43), and held the Tigers to a .049 hitting percentage.

Garvelink Powers MSU to 3-0 Sweep of Furman
MSU opened its 2017 season on Friday night in Atlanta, sweeping Furman 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-11). Furman came out full of energy and led the Spartans by as many as four points early in the fourth set, but MSU tied it up at 11-11 and kept their foot on the gas from there. After a 25-20 victory in the opening set, MSU put its foot on the gas and took the next two sets by sizable margins, downing the Paladins 25-13 and 25-11 to close out the sweep.
