Michigan State posted a sixth consecutive 3-0 sweep, a straight-sets decision over Alabama-Birmingham (25-7, 25-16, 27-25) in the second-day opener of the annual Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational. MSU improved to 11-1 on the season, and UAB falls to 8-5. The Spartans have reeled off 11 consecutive wins, and have won 21 straight sets.

Michigan State played in front of its home crowd for the first time in the 2018 season, and posted a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-21, 25-16) of Albany in the first game of the annual Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational.

Michigan State gets its first home games of 2018 when it hosts the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational this weekend. MSU welcomes Albany, Alabama-Birmingham, and Western Michigan to Jenison Field House for the tournament.
Michigan State wrapped up the Fairfield Invitational with a 3-0 sweep (25-23, 25-20, 25-19) of Central Connecticut. The Spartans wrapped up the tournament with four consecutive 3-0 victories over two days.
Michigan State defeated Harvard on Saturday morning at the Fairfield Invitational (25-13, 25-21, 25-16). Alyssa Chronowski and Meredith Norris paced the Spartans with 10 kills each as MSU improved to 8-1 on the year.
Michigan State posted a 3-0 victory over host Fairfield (25-20, 25-17, 25-22) for its seventh consecutive victory. The Friday night match improved MSU’s record to 7-1 overall, while Fairfield falls to 1-6 on the year.
Michigan State came up against a feisty, scrappy Northeastern squad in the opening game of the Fairfield Invitational, but managed to pull away with a 3-0 victory (25-17, 26-24, 25-20). MSU is now 6-1 on the season and has won six matches in a row since an opening-night setback to Tennessee.
Michigan State has its third straight weekend on the road, and will play at the Fairfield Invitational. There are four games on tap for MSU in this tournament: Friday’s games against Northeastern and the host Stags, and Saturday’s matches vs. Harvard and Central Connecticut State.
Michigan State captured the 2018 Carolina Classic title with a 3-1 win over North Carolina (22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-19). Tournament MVP Naya Gros had a career-best 15 kills, hit .500, and added four blocks, while senior captain Maddie Haggerty had 13 kills and nine digs.
Michigan State improved to 4-1 on the year with a three-set sweep of UNC-Greensboro (25-18, 25-19, 25-17) in the second game of the Carolina Classic. MSU got double-digit kill performances from Alyssa Chronowski (her fifth straight) and freshman Molly Johnson. Chronowski had 12 kills, while Johnson had 10, hitting .500 (10-1-18) and adding five blocks. Classmate Naya Gros tied Johnson for the match high with five stuffs and added eight kills.

No. 22 Michigan State saw Belmont stage a big third-set comeback to force a fourth frame but closed it out with a decisive fourth-set victory to earn the 3-1 win to close out the Tennessee Classic (25-20, 25-11, 25-27, 25-10). MSU has won two straight after a heartbreaker on Friday night where it fell to Tennessee 3-1.

No. 22 Michigan State fell on the road in its season opener on Friday night, dropping a 3-1 decision to host Tennessee (21-25, 25-20, 17-25, 23-25). The Spartans, who graduated their entire starting rotation from a year ago, showed a lot of grit and determination in its first game with a lineup full of new faces and a team full of new roles.
Michigan State’s White team defeated Green 2-1 this afternoon in the annual Green & White Exhibition game. Nearly 1,000 people attended the annual intrasquad scrimmage, giving fans their first look at the 2018 Spartans. With the graduation of seven seniors from the 2017 edition that advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight, there’s plenty of players – both returning and new – stepping into new roles for the coming season.
Michigan State welcomes fans back to Jenison Field House to kick off the 2018 volleyball season with the annual Green & White Exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 18. The match begins at 4 pm at Jenison Field House, and admission is free for all patrons. After the match, the Spartans will autograph posters, which will also be available for free at Jenison.
Michigan State appears at No. 22 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) preseason poll, as announced by the Association on Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans advanced to the Elite eight in 2017 and ended the campaign ranked No. 8. After the graduation of seven seniors from that team, Michigan State has reloaded with the No. 15 recruiting class in the country, adding them to a talented class of sophomores which was ranked No. 9 when they entered college a year ago.
Michigan State’s outstanding 2017 season rolled into both professional and national team opportunities for four Spartans – Autumn Bailey, Holly Toliver, Brooke Kranda, and Meredith Norris.
