Spartans second baseman Dan Durkin leading by example
Dan Durkin never really saw it coming. As he prepared to play his senior season after earning All-Big Ten honors last year at second base for the Spartans, the only thing on his mind was competing for a conference championship and getting his team back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2012. But when the team held its annual First Pitch Dinner in mid-February, coach Jake Boss Jr. called the native of Tinley Park, Illinois, up to the podium.

Spartan Baseball Series Preview: Ohio State
The Ohio State Buckeyes are currently on a two-game losing streak and are 14-19 overall. Their 3-6 conference record puts them one spot below the Spartans at number 9. It’s also worth mentioning both teams were swept by the red-hot Minnesota Gophers (so at least they seem like the real deal for the moment).

Blaise Salter, Bill Freehan’s grandson, destined for Tigers organization
By all accounts, Blaise Salter was destined to be in the Detroit Tigers organization. The 23-year-old second-year pro with the West Michigan Whitecaps has the background, pedigree and a little bit of luck on his side to be a part of a team he grew up rooting for. “It was really a blessing I got drafted by the Tigers,” he said. “Just one of those amazing moments you never forget.”

The Only Recap: Fresno State stays on the porch as the Big Dawg Spartans get back on track
The Spartans did it again, and by “it” I mean go out and prove me completely wrong. My prediction was downright awful and Michigan State made sure I knew about it with their complete sweep of Fresno State. After having to relocate to Fifth Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids for the weekend they looked like a completely different team. Whenever the Spartans are forced to play outside of East Lansing they perform very well.
