Michigan State baseball has a plan to return to respectability
Last week, under solid gray skies and in 30-degree temperatures that felt more like the 20’s, the Michigan State baseball team was able to practice outdoors in East Lansing for just the third time this winter. The Spartans’ intrasquad scrimmage at McLane Stadium was made possible, in part, due to their heated infield – the electrically-powered infield installed in 2016 by Fields Inc. was the first of its kind in the world – and offered a short but chilly reprieve from the cabin fever the team has been fighting while practicing indoors.

Three Michigan State baseball players were tabbed to the Big Ten Conference Preseason Honors list, as the league announced its preseason honors list and preseason poll on Wednesday, Feb. 12, prior to the opening weekend of the 2020 season, which gets underway on Friday. The league’s coaches voted on the top six teams and also selected three student-athletes from their own squads to a Preseason Honors list. MSU Preseason honorees included redshirt-junior pitcher Mason Erla, senior pitcher Jarret Olson and sophomore outfielder Zaid Walker.

MSU Baseball Adds One For 2020 Season
Michigan State baseball head coach Jake Boss Jr., announced that Zach Hopman will be joining the Spartans in the fall of 2019. Hopman is an outfielder/pitcher from Brighton, Mich. (Brighton High School). “Zach is a tremendous athlete,” Boss said. “He had a great spring and made a run at the state home run record. He’s a very, very athletic, left-handed hitter with obvious power at the plate. He’s also going to have the opportunity to pitch this spring. We’re very excited to have him as a Spartan.”

Adam Berghorst sticks with Michigan State football over pro baseball
Adam Berghorst, a defensive end from Zeeland (Mich.) East High School, will remain a member of Michigan State’s 2019 recruiting class. Berghorst, ranked a three-star prospect and the No. 16 player in Michigan for 2019 by the 247Sports Composite, was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 14th round of the MLB Draft in June.
