One day after Hunter Rison’s father, Andre Rison, announced he would transfer, the Michigan State true freshman wide receiver confirmed the news. Rison declared his intent to transfer via Twitter Tuesday night and included a screenshot of his official release from the program.

Another week, another monster performance for Brian Lewerke.After throwing for a program-record 445 yards in a triple-overtime loss at Northwestern, the Michigan State redshirt sophomore quarterback was 33-for-56 passing for 400 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in a 27-24 win against Penn State on Saturday.

Both true freshmen came through with big plays down the stretch against the Hoosiers. White posted career highs with six catches for 99 yards to lead the Spartans and had big third-down receptions, including one for 34 yards to set up Michigan State’s final touchdown. Rison finished with just two catches for 13 yards, but both moved the chains in the fourth quarter. The first was for four yards on fourth-and-3 and the second was for nine yards on third-and-8.

When Hunter Rison pushes his 5-foot-11, 200-pound frame off of the line of scrimmage, he knows he’ll likely encounter a linebacker or safety bigger than he is. And he knows he very well might do so while cutting across the middle of the field, opening himself up to potential big hits from opposing defenders.

Hunter Rison’s second catch on Saturday against Notre Dame was a case study in what he says he’s been asked to do for Michigan State. Rison burst through the slot and into the secondary, where he caught a 20-yard pass between multiple defenders in the middle of the field from Brian Lewerke. The play finished with a hard hit that sent him to the ground. “Just playing aggressive, running through tackles, not being afraid of going over the middle, they really appreciate that here, because we’re a tough offense,” Rison said after practice on Tuesday when asked about his play.

Talent, Dantonio said. “I think I’m most pleasantly surprised with how many good players we have, quite honestly,” Dantonio said on Monday during Michigan State’s media day. “We lost some players, we lost some good players, we lost some other players who weren’t going to play for us.”

Cam Chambers waited and watched three of his classmates get their chance at wide receiver last season. First, Justin Layne moved to cornerback. Then Donnie Corley was dismissed from the program. Now, Chambers sees a chance to make his impact. “It was tough,” the redshirt freshman said today. “I wanted to help any time. I was eager to get out there. I was on-call and ready to go whenever I was called. ”He’s likely to hear his name very soon.
