Davis came to Michigan State as a raw big man from Muskegon who looked like a future pro and declared for the NBA draft after his freshman season despite not being completely ready and instead of returning after the original declaration, he hired an agent and stayed in. To this day, the fact that he didn’t get another year with Davis still haunts Tom Izzo to this day.

Deyonta Davis is on the move and will now have a different former Michigan State player alongside him in the frontcourt. Davis, the Muskegon native and former Michigan State forward, was traded from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday as part of a three-player trade, according to ESPN.

After slipping to the second round of the 2016 NBA Draft and playing in only 36 games as a rookie, it was clear former Michigan State big man Deyonta Davis’ pro basketball career wasn’t going as planned. However, things are starting to look up for the 6-foot-11 Davis, who left MSU after just one season with the expectation that he was going to be a lottery pick.

Veteran Vince Carter thinks so much of rookie teammate Deyonta Davis that he’s taken him under his wing. Er, make that put him in a wing in his house. The 19-year veteran built a new room in his mansion just for Davis, according to Memphis coach David Fizdale. He told ESN’s The Jump that Carter wanted to give the 20-year-old Davis a place where the former Michigan State player and Muskegon High School grad could visit and be comfortable.
