He said the same goes for redshirt sophomore receiver Darrell Stewart Jr. Together, they rank No. 1 and No. 2 for the Spartans in both catches and receiving yards. Lurking one spot behind them is true freshman Cody White, who apparently isn’t as talkative on the field as his elders at his position. “Cody is quiet,” Davis said. “He’s the silent killer.”

Through the first five games of his career, Michigan State wide receiver Cody White was playing like most freshmen seeing their first college action. He would be in for a handful of plays, be targeted a few times and slowly get his feet wet in the Spartans’ offense. It seemed the standard development. That development has skyrocketed in the last two weeks. Following his six catches for 99 yards against Indiana, White exploded with nine catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns in the triple-overtime loss at Northwestern.

White posted career highs with six catches for 99 yards to lead the Spartans and had big third-down receptions, including one for 34 yards to set up Michigan State’s final touchdown. Rison finished with just two catches for 13 yards, but both moved the chains in the fourth quarter. The first was for four yards on fourth-and-3 and the second was for nine yards on third-and-8.
