The Michigan State wrestling team is back inside historic Jenison Field House for the first time this season as they host the prestigious MSU Open on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 9:30 a.m. Seventeen teams will attend the Open, with some notable ranked teams in the latest Intermat ranks: No. 5 Michigan, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 17 Oklahoma, No. 19 Wisconsin, No. 26 Indiana, and No. 30 Northwestern. The Michigan State wrestling team opened the season at the Clarion Open that saw three top-six finishes on Sunday, Nov. 5. The day was highlighted with junior Luke Daly leading the way for the Spartans in the 197 division with a team high fourth-place place finish. The Carbondale, Illinois, native posted three victories on the day that started with a 19-4 tech fall against Ike Schmidt from Columbia at the 6:41 mark. Daly went on to win two more matches with a 7-4 decision in the round of 16 and knocking off the 29th ranked Sam Mitchell from Buffalo, 5-4, before dropping his next two matches securing the fourth-place place spot.

Redshirt senior Jordan Hamdan will represent Michigan State Wrestling and Team USA at the United World Wrestling U23 Greco-Roman World Championships in Tirana, Albania, Oct. 28-29. Hamdan secured his spot on the team at the Greco-Roman world team trials in Geneva, Ohio in June.

Junior 165-pounder Caleb Fish scored the largest first round upset since 2021 and ultimately became the lowest seed to reach the quarterfinals of the 2023 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships on Thursday inside the BOK Center. Three of MSU’s four national qualifiers remain in contention, with junior 157-pounder Chase Saldate and redshirt senior 184-pounder Layne Malczewski continuing action in the consolation rounds.

Michigan State wrestling gears up for the finale of its 2022-23 season, as the Spartans send a quartet of qualifiers to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to take part in the 2023 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. Matches inside the BOK Center are slated to begin on Thursday, March 16 and run through Saturday, March 18.

Michigan State wrestling landed four individuals as top-six pre-seeds in the 2023 Big Ten Wrestling Championships, the league office announced on Monday afternoon. The pre-seeds, as voted on by the league’s coaches, rank all 14 starters at each of the 10 weight classes based on their season record, NCAA Individual Ranking and head-to-head performances against other members of the tournament field.
