Michigan State lost a dogfight at Michigan on Sunday afternoon, falling 3-1 in a four-set battle (22-25, 25-23, 22-25, 26-28). The match featured 31 tie scores and 13 lead changes throughout the afternoon. Michigan is 8-3, 1-1 B1G, while MSU falls to 7-4, 0-2 in Conference play.

B1G Play Gets Underway at Indiana, Michigan
MSU opens Big Ten play with four straight road matches, starting on Friday when the Spartans take on Indiana in Bloomington. On Sunday, MSU travels for the first meeting with arch rival Michigan this season – a match which will be played at Crisler Center.

Sweep of IUPUI Opens Saturday Action
Michigan State earned its second victory of the weekend with a 3-0 sweep of IUPUI (25-18, 25-21, xxx) at the Green & White Classic tournament. The Spartans (6-2) hit .239 in the match, overcoming a tough middle frame that was fueled by unforced errors for both teams. The Spartans out-blocked their guests by an 8-2 margin.

Spartans Sweep Oakland, 3-0
Michigan State earned a 3-0 sweep of visiting Oakland (26-24, 25-13, 25-20) to open the Green & White Volleyball Classic. MSU continued its hot hitting from the middle, as Rebecka Poljan went off for 13 kills and hit .632, adding three blocks. Naya Gros hit .600 (7-1-10), and also had three stuffs.

Michigan State fell to No. 13 Brigham Young in the final match of the BYU invitational on Saturday night in Provo. MSU fell in straight sets, (14-25, 21-25, 19-25) to fall to 4-2 on the year.

Gros Ties School Record In Sweep of Dixie State
Michigan State improved to 3-1 on the season with a 3-0 victory over Dixie State (25-19, 25-17, 25-20) in the first game of the BYU Invitational. MSU had a hot-hand day, hitting a season-best .341 and was over .400 for most of the match. Sarah Franklin led MSU with 13 kills, while Celia Cullen had a double-double with 34 assists and 10 blocks. Naya Gros was a devastating figure at the net with 10 blocks (five solo) – a mark which tied the three-set match record for solo stuffs.

Michigan State fell to Wright State 3-2 (25-19, 16-25, 18-25, 25-21, 13-15) in the finale of the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational on Saturday at Jenison Field House. Wright State was receiving votes in the preseason AVCA national poll.

Swartz Earns All-District Honors from CoSIDA
Michigan State volleyball player Lauren Swartz (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) All-District Team, as announced on Thursday, June 10. Sixty-nine Division I volleyball student-athletes earned the honor, split across eight districts. Those players advance to the national ballot, with Academic All-America selections for Division I volleyball slated to be announced on Monday, July 12.
