It’s football game week and with students now back on campus, there’s a buzz in every corner of East Lansing. Our men’s and women’s soccer teams have already opened their 2025 seasons, and our other fall sports officially begin this weekend. It’s a time of great optimism and unlimited possibilities for Michigan State Athletics!

Veteran NFL Agent Mitchell Moorer Named MSU Executive Sr. Associate AD for Student-Athlete Management and Administration
With experience as a sports agent, corporate attorney and in the NFL, Mitchell Moorer has been appointed Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Management and Administration, Michigan State University Vice President and Director of Athletics J Batt announced. Moorer will advise AD Batt and athletics leadership on legal matters pertaining to the department. He will be responsible for drafting, negotiating and managing contracts for MSU athletics, including but not limited to contracts related to name, image and likeness (NIL) licensing agreements, employee contracts, sponsorship agreements, commercial partnerships, and media rights. Equally important, he will oversee the strategy, assignment and distribution of institutional benefits provided to student-athletes under the terms of the House v. NCAA settlement.

Aidan Chiles repeats as 1 of 5 captains
Jonathan Smith wrapped up Michigan State football’s preseason camp in the early afternoon. The second-year coach turned the page by naming his captains a few hours later. Coach Jonathan Smith announced via social media Monday, Aug. 18, that junior starting quarterback Aidan Chiles was among the team’s captains for the second straight season, along with linebacker Jordan Hall, center Matt Gulbin, defensive end Quindarius Dunnigan and linebacker Sam Edwards.

Michigan State’s Taylor Kehoe and Brooke Biermann grind through playoff holes to advance to USGA Women’s Amateur quarterfinals
Brooke Biermann played 41 holes of golf today, and with her final shot of the day, she earned the right to play another round tomorrow at the USGA Women’s Amateur at Bandon Dunes in Oregon. After grinding out a victory in 22 holes of match play in the Round of 32 earlier Thursday, Biermann headed right back out to the course for the Round of 16.

Michigan State Athletics Announces 2025 Hall of Fame Class
Five standout student-athletes and one iconic coach comprise the Michigan State Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025. Mark Dantonio (football), Tony Keyes (men’s soccer), Kori Moster (volleyball), Caroline Powers (women’s golf), Nick Simmons (wrestling), and Sam Vincent (men’s basketball) will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in September.

Spartans commit Brady Peddle selected by Penguins in NHL Entry Draft
Michigan State hockey commit Brady Peddle has been selected in the third round of the NHL Entry Draft. Peddle was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins with the No. 91 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft on Saturday. Peddle was one of many current and future Michigan State players selected in this year’s NHL Draft.

Ryker Lee Selected in First Round of 2025 NHL Draft
Incoming Michigan State hockey freshman Ryker Lee was selected by the Nashville Predators with the 26th pick in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday night. Lee becomes the 13th Spartan to be selected in the opening round and will be the fourth first rounder to play under head coach Adam Nightingale in East Lansing since 2022 joining Isaac Howard, Charlie Stramel and Artyom Levshunov.

Jase Richardson surrounded himself with plenty of familiar faces waiting to find out his NBA fate. Turns out, he’s heading to a pretty familiar place. For him and his family. Yet again. Orlando took Richardson at No. 25 in the first round of the NBA draft on Wednesday, June 25. It is the same team that his father, Jason, spent two of his 13-year NBA career.

Michigan State spending big on new AD J Batt in 6-year deal
Michigan State will pay its new athletic director more than double what it shelled out to his predecessor.J Batt, who was hired away from Georgia Tech earlier this month, signed a six-year contract that will pay him $1.85 million in base salary the first year. Annual $100,000 raises push the total to $2.35 million in its final year for a total of $12.6 million.
