It’s spring cleaning and moving time for Michigan State’s athletic department. The perfect time for a yard sale. That’s exactly what is happening Saturday at Jenison Field House, where a number of Spartan sports items will be on sale from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Harrison Halley’s true identity can now be revealed. he 2013 Novi High grad secretly spent the past three years as Michigan State’s official mascot, better known as Sparty. alley, who recently graduated from MSU with a degree in Communications and Music, checked off all the boxes, and more, on his personal bucket list.

Michigan State’s Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) hosted the 20th annual Spartan Academic Excellence Gala on Monday evening at the Breslin Center. The event recognized the academic success of Spartan student-athletes during the 2016-17 academic year and celebrated the event’s 20th-year anniversary.
The Big Ten Conference announced the Academic All-Big Ten honorees for the 2017 winter sports season on Wednesday, March 22. In all, 62 Michigan State student-athletes were honored over the Spartans’ seven winter sports.

Michigan State (18-11, 10-6 Big Ten) sent its seniors out in style on Sunday with an 84-74 win over No. 16 Wisconsin (22-7, 11-5) in its final home game of the season. Nick Ward led four players in double figures with 22 points and nine rebounds on 9-for-12 shooting. Miles Bridges scored 17 and Matt McQuaid added 15. Cassius Winston posted 10 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.

Nick Ward and Miles Bridges – the two freshmen who have produced all season – were the catalysts again Sunday as Ward scored 22 and grabbed nine rebounds while Bridges added 17 points and seven rebounds as Michigan State beat No. 16 Wisconsin, 84-74.

Nick Ward had 22 points and nine rebounds, Miles Bridges had 17 points and Matt McQuaid added a season-high 15 to help Michigan State beat No. 16 Wisconsin 84-74 on Sunday. The Spartans (18-11, 10-6 Big Ten) have won six of their last eight games, moving them into a third-place tie in the conference and perhaps sealing their spot in a 20th straight NCAA Tournament
The Spartans locked up the Huskers and held them to just 38.5 percent shooting in a 72-61 win on Feb. 2 in Lincoln. Michigan State led by as many as 20 points in that game while shooting 55.8 percent from the field, including 11-for-17 from distance. With how well MSU shot the ball, head coach Tom Izzo told his guys that the Spartans will have to win with defense, as there’s no guarantee they shoot that well again.

Helping to ensure the future success of MSU Athletics, Alumna Mary Helen and Craig Crooks have made a leadership gift in support of Empower Extraordinary the campaign for Michigan State, the university announced today.
When the American Collegiate Hockey Association represents the United States at the 28th Winter World University Games in Almaty, Kazakhstan later this month, MSU will have two players on the roster. The two Spartans are Kelsey Jaeckle and Maddie Wolsmann, who were selected to the national team.

Mark Hollis’ tenure as the head of the Football Bowl Subdivision’s athletic directors ended before it even began. The Michigan State athletic director confirmed that he has resigned his First Vice Chair position with LEAD1 for “personal reasons and to focus on the future of MSU.” His decision was first reported by WLNS-TV in Lansing.

Michigan State women’s basketball dropped its Big Ten road opener at Purdue, 66-54, at Mackey Arena on Wednesday.Michigan State played its first game without head coach Suzy Merchant, who was sidelined after fainting in the Spartans win against Illinois on Jan. 1. Associate head coach Amaka Agugua was interim head coach for today’s game.
Getting this rolled out to celebrate the Rutgers win, the Spartans starting 3-0 in the Big Ten and Miles Bridges return.

Michigan State freshman forward Nick Ward has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week and third time this season, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Ward averaged 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks last week, shooting .619 from the field and leading the Spartans to a 2-0 start in Big Ten play.
Three weeks ago, we took an early look at Michigan State’s 2017 depth chart.Now, the back end of that defensive depth chart has a different look.Safety Montae Nicholson announced last week that he would forgo his senior year of eligibility and declare for the NFL Draft, in a somewhat surprise move.
