The College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has announced that Michigan State placed both its men’s and women’s programs among the 710 college swim teams nationwide to earn Scholar All-America honors based on their academic performance in the Spring 2018 semester.

Divers Successful at Senior Nationals
Michigan State had a pair of women’s divers competing at the 2018 USA Diving Senior National Championships this week in Dallas, Texas, and both had strong finishes. Freshman Amanda Ling (Wixom, Mich.) and junior Julia Oppedisano (Strongsville, Ohio) were the Spartans competing this week, both competing against some of the best divers in the country.

The Michigan State women’s swimming and diving team completed day three of Big Ten Championships today with multiple personal and season-best swims. “It was a tough break, we jumped the 200 free relay, so that was a tough one for us,” head coach Matt Gianiodis said. “We had some great swims in the breaststroke and then Morgan Wellenzohn ended up placing in the diving. Just a tough break in that relay, but we’ll pick it up tomorrow. We’ll come back strong tomorrow morning.”

Michigan State women’s swimming and diving started the first two days of Big Ten Championships off strong, breaking two varsity relay records. “We broke the school record in the 400 medley relay by three seconds, which was awesome. The Michigan State women’s swimming and diving team is ready to compete in the Big Ten Championships hosted by Ohio State on Feb. 14-17 in Columbus, Ohio. “We are really excited to be part of the championship,” head coach Matt Gianiodis said. “Ohio State is a great facility and they host a great championship. Our team has done very well all season long and our goal is to cap the season off with good swimming and diving performances.”

The Michigan State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were awarded College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honors for their performances in the classroom during the 2017 fall semester. To earn the honor, teams were required to post a GPA of a 3.0 or higher.

The Michigan State swimming and diving teams beat Oakland today in its final home meet of the season. The men defeated the Golden Grizzlies 160.5-133.5 and the women won 197-103, racking up a total of 21 first-place finishes.
