Michigan State men’s soccer had three players honored with Big Ten weekly awards on Tuesday. Junior midfielder Jonathan Stout was named Offensive Player of the Week, while redshirt-junior Zac Kelly was named Goalkeeper of the Week. Defender Brandon Munson earned Freshman of the Week honors.

A goal in the second minute was all the Spartan men’s soccer team needed to upset No. 15 UCLA, 1-0, Friday night at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. Michigan State captured the first-ever meeting between the Spartans and the Bruins. It was also MSU’s first road victory of the year. With the win, the Spartans improved to 3-4-2 this season

Michigan State men’s soccer closed out a four-game homestand with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Air Force on Friday Night at DeMartin Stadium. The final game of the homestand was Red Cedar Rowdies Night to celebrate the Spartan student supporters.

Michigan State men’s soccer will conclude its season-long four-game homestand against Air Force on Friday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.The Spartans fell to 1-2-1 this season after a hard-fought loss to then-No. 5 Oregon State on Sept. 2. Freshman forward Mohamed Saad scored his first collegiate against the Beavers.

In a Labor Day battle, Michigan State men’s soccer was edged by No. 5 Oregon State, 2-1, at a packed DeMartin Stadium on Monday .”To be honest, I just told the guys to keep the faith,” Rensing said. “I mean they played really well today. That’s a team that made the Final Four, and other than the two goals, I am hard pressed to find a really dangerous chance they got. I felt we were all over them, and it was an awesome place at DeMartin. I just want to thank the 2500 or so fans that were out there for a Labor Day game. I think if we just keep the faith, the goals will come.”

Michigan State men’s soccer will play its third-straight home game facing No. 19/5 Oregon State in a Labor Day battle on Monday at 1 p.m. The Spartans improved to 1-1-1 this season after 1-0 win against Villanova on Aug. 30. Michigan State earned it first shutout of the season with redshirt-junior goalkeeper Zac Kelly making three saves.

Michigan State men’s soccer continues its four-game homestand, hosting Villanova on Friday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. It is Kick-Off Day on the Pitch, as fans can present their football ticket to MSU’s game against FAU for complimentary admission to the game. Due to possible storms in the area the game was moved from 12 p.m. to 11 a.m.

Michigan State men’s soccer dropped a hard-fought home opener to Bowling Green, 1-0, at a hot and humid DeMartin Stadium on Monday night. “We created four or five one-on-one opportunities with the goalkeeper, credit to the goalie (Brendan Graves) he was the man of the match. He made unbelievable saves, so credit to him.” MSU head coach Damon Rensing said.

Michigan State men’s soccer opens the home schedule against Bowling Green on Monday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium. Monday is Welcome Back Students Night at DeMartin. In the season opener, the Spartans tied No. 25 SIUE 1-1 in Edwardsville, Illinois on Thursday, Aug. 22.

Michigan State men’s soccer junior midfielder Jonathan Stout was named to the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List on Thursday. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. Stout is the first Spartan to make the list since Giuseppe Barone and Patrick Nielsen were named to the Hermann Watch List in 2019.

Michigan State men’s soccer team had three players named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday. Juniors Jeremy Sharp, Jake Spadafora and Jonathan Stout were all honored by the league. The Big Ten preseason poll was also released Tuesday, as voted on by the 11 conference coaches. This is first season the league has expanded to 11 teams with the addition of UCLA and Washington. MSU was voted to pick fifth, while Indiana was once again picked to win the league. Penn State was voted second, while newcomer UCLA was picked third.

In its final test before the regular season, Michigan State men’s soccer fell to UIC, 1-0, Friday night in an exhibition match in front of a spirited crowd at DeMartin Stadium.

Michigan State men’s soccer defeated Butler 3-2 in its first exhibition of the season at Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis on Monday evening. “This exhibition had a lot of everything,” MSU head coach Damon Rensing said. “Butler came out, it was there second exhibition, and they were sharp and pressed us. They scored a couple early goals, and we weren’t quite ready for it. To the guys credit, they re-grouped at half time and scored three great goals in the second half.”

Michigan State men’s soccer head coach Damon Rensing announced the Spartans’ 2024 schedule on Wednesday. This season, the Spartans welcome two new Big Ten members in UCLA and Washington. Michigan State will now play 10 league contests, as there are now 11 B1G teams sponsoring men’s soccer.

Michigan State men’s soccer player Jonathan Stout was named to the 2023 Academic All-America® men’s soccer third team, as selected by the College Sports Communicators on Tuesday. The midfielder is the first Spartan to capture Academic All-American honors since 2016. In that season, Brad Centala was named to the second team and Andrew Herr captured third-team accolades.
