The Spartans have now tied four of their last six games, including their last two. Despite the draws, MSU is still unbeaten with a 6-0-6 overall record and stand 2-0-4 in Big Ten play.

Zac Kelly Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week
Zac Kelly was named Big Ten Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. Kelly earned the Spartans’ first Player of the Week honor of the 2023 season after MSU went 1-0-1 last week. The goalkeeper allowed only one goal in two games last week which was a penalty kick versus Villanova on Sept. 4. Against the Wildcats he recorded three saves.

Michigan State men’s soccer had its season opener against Loyola Chicago declared a no contest due to severe weather in the East Lansing area. In the 54th minute, the game was initially delayed due to lighting in the area and the teams retreated to Jenison Field House. The match would not resume from that point as the rain, thunder and lightning intensified and was declared a no contest.

Spartan Soccer Opens Season Hosting Loyola
Michigan State men’s soccer will open the 2023 season, hosting Loyola Chicago on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium. This is the earliest start to the season for the Spartans since opening on Aug. 24 against South Florida in 2018. In that battle, Michigan State came out on top, 1-0. MSU also began the season on Aug. 24 in 2012 against Valparaiso with a 0-0 overtime tie.
