Michigan State baseball will conclude its fall practice slate with the annual Green-White World Series. The three-game intrasquad exhibition series will take place at McLane Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 11; Friday, Oct. 12 and Sunday, Oct. 14.

Michigan State baseball will face Penn State in a nine-inning exhibition game on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. at Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky, Ohio. The exhibition is the conclusion of an eventful weekend, featuring an event with the Force All-Stars and a practice on Saturday, Sept. 21, before Sunday’s scrimmage.

Michigan State baseball’s late-inning rally came up short in the 12th annual Crosstown Showdown Presented by Auto-Owners Insurance, falling to the Lansing Lugnuts, 6-4, on Tuesday night at a hot and humid Cooley Law School Stadium. A spirited crowd of 6,388 was on hand to watch the annual exhibition game and home run derby.

The 6-foot-7, 250-pound right-hander, who played at Michigan State, has plowed through the minors to this point. He has a 1.58 ERA in 22 games at Iowa, the Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate, with 24 hits allowed in 28 1/3 innings. He has struck out 34 and walked 14, which has led to a higher whip (1.34). He has three saves, a hold and a blown save.

Todd Fine, a former Michigan State baseball player, will lead the USA 12U national team in the COPABE Pan-Am “A” Championship. Fine lettered as a player for the Spartans in 1993 and 1994.Since playing for the Spartans, Fine has bounced around the national baseball scene both coaching and scouting. Most notably, Fine served as an area scout for the Houston Astros and was named the Amateur Coach of the Year in 2014 by Baseball America.

Michigan State baseball was recognized with the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award for the second-straight year. Michigan State had a 3.21 GPA this year, which is the second-highest in program history, only behind last year’s 3.22. The Spartans were the only Big Ten team on the 46-team list for NCAA Division I teams.

One moment was heinous, the other heroic. In each he seemed unbound by humanity’s usual norms and limits, bigger than life, incomprehensible. Both events occurred three decades ago. Now it was a late-March morning in 2018, and as I approached a dugout, I recognized the broad back of Gibson, sitting alone.

Former Saginaw Heritage and Michigan State University standout Jeff Kinley is making all-star games a regular part of his minor league baseball schedule. For the second straight season, Kinley earned an all-star spot and for the second straight season came through with a scoreless appearance.

Michigan State baseball head coach Jake Boss Jr., announced that utility player Andrew Morrow will be joining the Spartans in the fall of 2018. Morrow is a utility player from Omaha, Nebraska (Creighton Preparatory School/Fort Scott CC).

Michigan State junior pitcher Riley McCauley was selected in the 14th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday.McCauley was selected in the 14th round (pick number 428 overall) by the Chicago Cubs. This marks the third-straight year that a Spartan has been drafted by the Cubs, joining Dakota Mekkes (2016) & Brandon Hughes (2017).

Michigan State baseball head coach Jake Boss Jr. announced the winners of the 2018 team awards on Thursday, May 31. All of the awards were voted on by the players with the exception of the Offensive Player of the Year award, which is based on various statistical data over the course of the season.

After the field of 64 was announced on Memorial Day, Michigan State baseball has now missed the NCAA tournament for the sixth consecutive year. Their last appearance came in 2012 when they finished with a 37-23 mark and a semifinal showing in the Big Ten tournament. Two days after being ousted by Indiana, the Spartans heard their name on Selection Monday. Since then, it’s been a rocky stretch for MSU.

Eighth-seeded Michigan State gave top-seeded and regular-season champion Minnesota, the 12th-ranked team in the country, all it could handle and more, but the Spartans came up short in a 3-2 loss Wednesday in the first round of the Big Ten Baseball Tournament at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska.

MSU is making its fourth Big Ten Tournament appearance in the last five seasons, only missing last year (although this season wasn’t the best either) and it’s the Spartans 14th time making the tournament in school history. Unfortunately, Michigan State did finish last in the tourney standings, so they get to take on the 12th-ranked Minnesota Gophers in the first round starting later tonight at 6 p.m.
