Stanton and Cousins hope they can keep Lewerke on course, too. Lewekre became the focus of MSU’s offensive woes in the middle of last season, with his injured throwing shoulder and damaged confidence. His junior season paled in comparison to the breakout 2017 season in which he accounted for 3,352 total yards — becoming the Spartans’ first true dual-threat QB since Stanton finished in 2006 — and directing a 10-3 record as a first-year starter.
