It’s been quite a run of surprises for the Michigan State men’s soccer team, which wasn’t even sure if it was going to make the NCAA Tournament. Then, after the Spartans got in, they reeled off three consecutive victories — including two against seeded teams — and now, stunningly, gets to host an Elite Eight game. And, on the individual side of things, junior midfielder Giuseppe Barone learned over the weekend during a tour of the nation’s Capitol following the upset win over Georgetown that he’s a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy, which goes to the nation’s top player.
