After trailing 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, No. 16 Michigan State (10-3, 7-2 Big Ten) rattled off 35 straight points in a 42-17 win against No. 18 Washington State (9-4, 6-3 Pac-12). Lewerke shook off the rough start, as well a big hit in the second half, to close his breakout season with an impressive performance. Lewerke finished 13-for-21 passing for 213 yards and three touchdowns and had 14 carries for 73 yards. His three touchdown passes tied a program bowl game record while his rushing total set a new high for a Michigan State quarterback in a bowl game.
