  • Cole Dismayed By Late-Season Departure of Defenseman Eliot

    Michigan State defenseman Mitch Eliot decided to leave the team earlier in the week to sign with Sarnia of the major junior OHL. The move came with just six games left in the regular season, which only added to Spartans’ head coach Danton Cole’s dismay. “At this point of the season, it would’ve been nice if he wanted to leave to finish,” Cole said. “If you want to leave early in the year, that’s one thing, but six games to go and the Michigan weekend (coming up), it’s an odd time.

  • Spartan hockey players spent the summer working out with NHL Teams

    Over the summer, defenseman Zach Osburn, forward Taro Hirose and defenseman Mitch Eliot all participated in NHL development camps. As for sophomore forward Patrick Khodorenko, he represented Team U.S.A in the World Junior Summer Showcase. “It was fun,” Osburn said. “Going into it I was pretty nervous to be with all those really good players and skilled players. It almost was a little intimidating, but when I was there you kinda realize, you know what these guys are good, but I feel pretty good too.”

  • MSU’s Mitch Eliot a familiar name at Red Wings development camp

    The Detroit Red Wings annual development camp is meant to teach players what it takes to be a pro hockey player, not to evaluate them in July when many haven’t been on the ice in weeks or months. But you can bet the players want to make the strongest possible impression even if they aren’t being judged. Doing anything else would be squandering a great opportunity. Michigan State defenseman Mitch Eliot went to the development camp with that in mind.

  • Spartans Share NHL Development Camp Experiences

    A trio of current Spartans had the opportunity to intensify their summer training programs by taking part in NHL development camps in recent weeks. Sophomore defenseman Mitch Eliot attended the Detroit Red Wings’ camp, while classmate Taro Hirose went to the Toronto Maple Leafs’ camp. Junior defenseman Zach Osburn took part in the Nashville Predators’ camp.
