The Detroit Red Wings annual development camp is meant to teach players what it takes to be a pro hockey player, not to evaluate them in July when many haven’t been on the ice in weeks or months. But you can bet the players want to make the strongest possible impression even if they aren’t being judged. Doing anything else would be squandering a great opportunity. Michigan State defenseman Mitch Eliot went to the development camp with that in mind.
