Michigan State men’s basketball Head Coach Tom Izzo announced today that rising redshirt junior Jack Hoiberg (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale Central) has been awarded a scholarship for the coming academic year.
Jack Hoiberg and Xavier Tillman were selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court, while the Spartans were a recipient of a Team Academic Excellence Award. Hoiberg and Tillman were selected to the NABC Honors Court, the eighth-straight year the Spartans have had team members earn that honor.
As a point guard on Michigan State’s scout team, Jack Hoiberg’s job every week is to learn the personnel and tendencies of the Spartans’ opponents and then replicate them in practice. Doing that for the Spartans’ opponent this week has been a little easier than normal. Hoiberg will play against his father, Nebraska coach Fred Hoiberg, when the Spartans travel to Lincoln for a Thursday game (8:30 p.m. ET, FS1).

Associate head coach Jim Boylen knew that Hoiberg wanted to pursue college basketball and brought up Michigan State. He had worked two separate stints as an assistant with the Spartans — once alongside MSU coach Tom Izzo and once under him.
