DT Dashaun Mallory’s academic improvement paved future at Michigan State
The academic roadblock that kept Mallory’s college future in limbo can be traced back to his freshman year at Bolingbrook. He was at a new school with new coaches, new demands of his time and a ninth-grader on the varsity squad. “At the time I’m like ‘I’m a varsity player here. What do I need to worry about?’” Mallory recalled. “I thought that was probably like the coolest thing and I got kind of big-headed at the time.”

Michigan State landed a late addition to its 2018 recruiting class. Dashaun Mallory, a three-star defensive lineman from Bolingbrook High School in Illinois, tweeted late Monday night he is committed to the Spartans and will sign Tuesday to play for coach Mark Dantonio.

Trieu: Key 2018 prospects Mallory, Nailor visit MSU this week
Michigan State will have a group of football visitors on campus for Saturday’s basketball game against Michigan. The vast majority of those prospects will be underclassmen, but there will be two seniors among them, Bolingbrook (Ill.) defensive tackle Dashaun Mallory and Las Vegas Bishop Gorman’s Jalen Nailor, two targets remaining in a small pool of class of 2018 recruits.

Michigan State in lead for Illinois DT Dashaun Mallory
One of the top performers this summer at the MSU camp was Bolingbrook (Ill.) defensive tackle Dashaun Mallory. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound prospect was offered by the Spartans shortly after his standout performance. Mallory is the No. 11 player in Illinois and the No. 44 defensive tackle prospect in the nation for the class of 2018. Other teams that have extended him a scholarship include several MAC programs, Colorado State and Iowa State.
