The academic roadblock that kept Mallory’s college future in limbo can be traced back to his freshman year at Bolingbrook. He was at a new school with new coaches, new demands of his time and a ninth-grader on the varsity squad. “At the time I’m like ‘I’m a varsity player here. What do I need to worry about?'” Mallory recalled. “I thought that was probably like the coolest thing and I got kind of big-headed at the time.”
