Michigan State head coach Adam Nightingale has been named a finalist for Big Ten Coach of the Year honors. The first-year Spartan mentor has guided the Spartans into the Big Ten Tournament semifinals, and will take on No. 1/1 Minnesota on Saturday.

Adam Nightingale, like the past two Michigan State head coaches, is an alumnus. But he will try to do what they were unable to do, bring Michigan State back to college hockey prominence. Nightingale played for Michigan State for two seasons, after transferring from Lake Superior State. His older brother, Jason, who works for the Buffalo Sabres, played at Lake Superior. His younger brother, Jared, switched his NLI from Lake Superior to Michigan State, so Adam followed him.

Nightingale’s name was floated around almost immediately after Cole was let go. He has an impressive resume, with experience in Team U.S.A.’s developmental program and the National Hockey League.

Adam Nightingale Named Spartan Hockey Coach
Adam Nightingale, a Spartan alumnus with hockey experience at the international, professional, collegiate, and youth levels, has been named the eighth head coach in Michigan State hockey history. Nightingale comes to MSU after two seasons as head coach at the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP) and brings four years of NHL experience, including serving as an assistant coach for the Detroit Red Wings in 2019-20. Known for his exceptional player development and recruiting ties, Nightingale was a two-year alternate captain as a Spartan student-athlete.

Michigan State Set to Name Nightingale New Coach
Adam Nightingale, a Michigan State alumnus and current coach of the U.S. Under-18 team, will be named the next head coach at his alma mater, multiple sources have told College Hockey News. The United States team, led by Nightingale, just earned the silver medal at the U-18 World Hockey Championship in Munich, losing to Sweden in the final game.
