The end of Michigan State’s Big Ten tournament run may be its loudest statement moving into the NCAA tournament. The Spartans scored 89 points in Saturday’s semifinal — and still lost by 11 to No. 4-ranked Maryland — but producing that total in their third game in three days was impressive. Only one team all season scored more than that against the Terps (and it wasn’t flawless Connecticut, which topped out at 87 in its win over Maryland.)

Michigan State women’s basketball run in the Big Ten Tournament came to an end on Saturday night when the Spartans fell to No. 4 Maryland, 100-89, in the semifinals, Mar. 4.
Michigan State met up with No. 3 seed Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals on Friday night in Indianapolis, Ind. and came away with a 74-64 victory over the Wolverines. The victory was the second win for MSU over UM this season and it puts the Spartans in the semifinals against No. 2 seed Maryland on Saturday at approximately 6:15 pm in the second semifinal of the day at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse.

Double-figure scoring by four different Spartans lifted Michigan State over Wisconsin 70-63 in the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday night. Senior Tori Jankoska led all scorers with 22 points, her 19th game this season with 20 or more points. Taya Reimer knocked down her third double-double of the season with 12 points and season-high 12 rebounds. Redshirt senior Branndais Agee added 14 points, and freshman Taryn McCutcheon contributed 10.

When Michigan State got to halftime Thursday night in the Big Ten tournament down by seven, MSU coach Suzy Merchant knew change was essential. Her team was getting dominated in the paint by Wisconsin, the offense was sluggish and her star, Tori Jankoska, looked off through the entire half. Merchant knocked down the issues one by one, with the last one — getting Jankoska going — being the most critical.
After a long hard season, the time has come and the bracket has been set. That’s right, it’s Big Ten tournament time! After an up and down season with records of 19-10 overall and 9-7 in the conference, the Michigan State Spartans have earned the six seed in the tournament. Michigan State opens action in its 24th Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament as the No. 6 seed and will face the winner of the first-round game between No. 11-seeded Wisconsin and No. 14-seeded Rutgers.
