Michigan State finally returns to the friendly confines of the Breslin Center after a three-game road swing. The Spartans will take on in-state foe, Western Michigan, on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 12:30 p.m. The game is the first half of a doubleheader with the MSU men’s team, who opens up Big Ten action against Nebraska. This is the second of five doubleheaders this season.

There aren’t many women’s basketball teams in the country that can say they’re on a winning streak against Connecticut. Michigan State is one of those teams — if you consider one win a streak, that is. The Spartans and Huskies last played in December 2004, when Michigan State won, 67-51, en route to a season in which it played for a national championship.

Michigan State continues its three-game road trip, taking on No. 1 Connecticut at the PK80 Invitational in Eugene, Oregon. The Spartans and the Huskies join Oregon and Oklahoma at Matthew Knight Arena for the women’s portion of the Invitational. All four schools will have their men’s teams take part in Portland.

Five Spartans scored in double figures as the Michigan State women’s basketball team captured the season opener against Robert Morris, 100-58, Saturday. Freshman forward Sidney Cooks was impressive in her Spartans’ debut, scoring 17 points to go with six rebounds and three assists. Also playing her first game in the Green and White was redshirt-sophomore Shay Colley, who tallied 16 points, four boards and two steals.
