Michigan State men’s tennis came away with a win and a loss after a Sunday doubleheader at the MSU Indoor Tennis facility. The Spartans (4-6) fell to Harvard (7-2) in the first dual of the day, 4-1, but rallied back to defeat Niagara (0-5), 7-0.

Western Michigan Gets Past Spartans, 5-2
Western Michigan defeated the Michigan State men’s tennis team, 5-2, Friday night at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. The Spartans (3-5) opened the dual by winning the doubles point, but the Broncos (7-1) claimed five singles matches to earn in the victory.

The Michigan State women’s tennis recruiting class of 2018 ranks No. 12 in the Top 25 Women’s Recruiting Class Rankings, as announced by the Tennis Recruiting Network on Monday. This is the Spartans’ first-ever appearance in the Top 25 Women’s Recruiting Class rankings, making this the highest recruiting class ranking in program history for MSU.

Women’s Tennis Defeats Akron, 6-1
The Michigan State women’s tennis team defeated Akron, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. MSU improves to 7-1 on the season and 6-0 at home.
“The girls had dominating performances this weekend. We played two complete matches and came out ready to go in doubles and singles,” head coach Kim Bruno said. “Getting that doubles point first helps us a lot and just carried over to our singles play.” -

“The Spartans dropped a hard-fought match to Princeton,” MSU head coach Gene Orlando said. “We had a slow start in doubles but bounced back in singles and made it a very competitive match. We are playing great tennis and our effort and fight are there. Our best tennis is ahead of us as well as many more opportunities.”

The Michigan State women’s tennis team bounced back on Saturday afternoon by defeating Furman, 4-0, in the consolation round of ITA Kick-Off Weekend held at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Complex in Athens, Georgia. The Spartans improve to 5-1 on the season.

Men’s Tennis Continues Road Swing At Princeton Sunday
Michigan State’s men’s tennis team is on the road again, this week headed to Princeton to battle the Tigers on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Lenz Tennis Center. The Spartans will be looking to come out strong after two losses last weekend against Notre Dame and Vanderbilt. In the 6-1 loss to Notre Dame, senior Michael Dube was able to defeat Matt Gamble for Michigan State’s only singles win, 6-3, 6-7(3-7), 10-6.

Michigan State women’s tennis team built on its successful start to the 2018 spring season with two more wins, bringing the Spartans to an impressive 4-0 mark on the weekend. In the second doubleheader of the weekend, the Spartans started off with a victory over Toledo, 4-0, before defeating Detroit Mercy, 4-0.

Men’s Tennis Concludes Fall Schedule at Big Ten Indoor Championships
Michigan State men’s tennis wrapped up the fall season by hosting Big Ten Indoor Championships from October 27-30. “I felt like we were competitive in every match against some quality opponents,” Michigan State head coach Gene Orlando said. “We won our fair share, but at the end of the day we would have liked to have won some of the three-setters that we let slip away. The positive is that we were right there in every single match, and a year ago at this time we were struggling to stay competitive.”
