Playing in its longest contest of the season, the Michigan State softball team used a walk-off single by sophomore Alexis Barroso to defeat Toledo, 5-4, in 11 innings on Wednesday night at Secchia Stadium. A win improves Michigan State’s record to 19-13 overall, including a 5-0 mark at home.

The Michigan State softball team shut out its fourth consecutive opponent on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Central Michigan in six innings, 8-0. A win over CMU marks the fifth straight victory for the Spartans and improves Michigan State’s overall record to 16-10 as the team heads into Big Ten play this weekend.

The Michigan State softball team split two games against a powerful UNCG team on Thursday, March 10, winning 7-2 in the second game of the series after dropping game one by a score of 6-2. With a split Michigan State’s record moves to 12-10 on the season. The Spartans will play three more games over spring break before heading back to East Lansing.

Six Spartan batters turned in multi-hit efforts while the MSU pitching staff allowed just two hits. A win on Sunday pushes Michigan State’s overall record to 11-8 on the season. The Spartans wrap up the Elon Cardinal Invite with a record of 3-2.

The Michigan State softball team found its offensive stride on Saturday, March 5, hitting .350 as a team (21-for-60) en route to wins over Elon (3-1) and East Carolina (6-1) on day two of the Elon Cardinal Invite. A pair of wins on Saturday improves Michigan State’s overall record to 10-8. The Spartans will conclude play at the Elon Cardinal Invite with a game against Detroit Mercy on Sunday morning at Hunt Softball Park.

Michigan State softball heads back to Florida this week to play in the FAU ‘Strikeout Cancer’ Tournament hosted by Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. Projected weather has altered the Spartans’ schedule for the weekend. Michigan State will now face four opponents over the course of three days at the invite, playing host FAU twice. MSU will play FAU at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, February 25, Jacksonville (4:30 p.m.) and FAU (7 p.m.) on Saturday, February 26, and LIU (10 a.m.) and Columbia (12:30 p.m.) on Sunday, February 27. All times are subject to change.

After both of its scheduled contests were postponed due to rain on Friday, the Michigan State softball team earned a pair of victories on Saturday, Feb. 19 to improve to 5-2 on the season. In game one, the Spartans defeated Mercer in extra innings, 2-1, before defeating Jacksonville in the night cap by a final score of 10-2.

Sophomore Ashley Miller etched her name in the Michigan State softball record book on Sunday, throwing the third perfect game in program history and the first seven inning perfect game ever for the Spartans in a 6-0 win over Akron. Miller joins Megan Hair (six innings), and Becky Gray/Jessica Beech (combined) as the only Michigan State softball players to ever achieve perfection.

The Michigan State softball team won its season opener on Friday morning, defeating Pittsburgh 1-0 at the Sleepy Hollow Softball Complex in Leesburg, Florida. Sophomore pitcher Ashley Miller tossed a gem in the circle, striking out 10 in a complete game shutout.

The Michigan State softball team will get its 2022 campaign underway this weekend in Leesburg, Florida, playing at the Northern Lights/Southern Nights event at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex. Michigan State will play five games over the courts of three days from Friday, Feb. 11 through Sunday, Feb. 13. Northern Lights/Southern Nights puts a focus on teams from the north and its twelve-team field six participants from the 2021 NCAA tournament, including three that advanced to the Super Regional.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its list of the top ten Division I schools with the highest GPA in 2021 on Tuesday afternoon. Michigan State ranked fourth in the nation in Division I with a cumulative team GPA of 3.784. Stanford earned top honors with a 3.846 GPA.
