Tom Anastos sounds like a man short on answers who knows he might be short on time to find them. There is a difference to his frustration this season, his sixth as Michigan State’s hockey coach. He expected the struggle in previous years — even as fans began to doubt him. It was all part of a blueprint he knew would take time. This season, even Anastos seems to be running out of patience.

Butrus Ghafari doesn’t recall how old he was, but he will never forget the feeling. His team had won a peewee youth hockey tournament, and Ghafari joined his teammates at center ice to accept their trophies. His father, Sejaan, approached. This weekend the Michigan State hockey team lost their 8th and 9th consecutive conference games falling to number 4 Penn State on back-to-back nights. MSU has not won a game since defeating North Dakota 4-3 on November 25th. While the excuse has been made the team is young and will need some time to develop, the team has failed to translate on the ice that improvements are coming, putting head coach Tom Anastos back on the hot seat. The start to the season saw the Spartans face numerous tough teams, and that will continue into Big Ten play.
