The Michigan State field hockey team fell to No. 8 Northwestern Sunday afternoon by a final of 8-2 in Big Ten play at Lakeside Field in Evanston, Illinois. The eight goals given up by the Spartans is the most this season. MSU is now 8-10 overall and 2-6 in Big Ten play while the Wildcats improve to 13-5 and 6-2 in the conference.

Spartans Open Fall Season at Head of the Grand Regatta
The 2017 Michigan State rowing team officially kicked off its fall season Sunday at the Head of the Grand Regatta held on the Grand River in Lansing, Mich. MSU raced in the Head of the Grand alongside six other participants, including the MSU men’s club team. The Spartans took wins in all three races they competed in, winning the overall points trophy.

The Michigan State rowing team is set to participate in the Head of the Grand Regatta, held on the Grand River in Lansing, Michigan on Sunday. MSU head coach Matt Weise is looking to the Regatta as a strong measuring stick of the progress his team has made so far this fall season.

Emily Regan Set to Row at World Championships
Michigan State rowing alumna Emily Regan is set to compete at the World Championships Tuesday in Sarasota and Bradenton, Fla. Regan will be in the two seat in the women’s eight. The MSU alumna is one of three returning Olympic gold medalists to compete in the race. Over the past 11 years, the women’s eight has been dominant, winning every Olympic and world championship race.

Rowing Releases 2017-18 Schedule
Michigan State women’s rowing head coach Matt Weise has announced the 2017-18 Spartan rowing schedule. The race schedule is loaded with Big Ten Conference rivals and competition from the PAC-12, Ivy League, and the ACC.

Liz England Joins Spartan Rowing Staff
MSU rowing coach Matt Weise has announced the addition of Liz England to the Spartan rowing staff. England is a former collegiate rower and coach at Washington State, as well as a member of the USA U23 team in 2012.

Higgins Earns CRCA All-Region Kudos
Michigan State senior Brianna Higgins (Lowell, Mich.) has been named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Region Selection, as announced on Monday. These awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each of the five regions, organized into first and second-team selections.

Spartans Earn CRCA Scholar Athlete Awards
The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) has announced their Division I scholar athlete awards for the 2017 season. All CRCA National Scholar Athletes must have maintained a 3.5 GPA throughout her career while being at least sophomore academic standing, and they must have rowed in the NCAA-eligible boats (varsity eight, second varsity eight, or varsity four) for at least 75 percent of the season.

Spartan Rowing Announces Nine Signees For 2017
Michigan State rowing coach Matt Weise has announced that nine student-athletes will join the Spartan rowing program when they enroll at Michigan State University in the fall of 2017. The Spartans, No. 19 in the most recent Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) national poll, have nine seniors on its current roster and are currently training for the Big Ten Championships, which will be held May 13-14 in Indianapolis, Ind.

Michigan State started its weekend in Boston with victories in four of six races on the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass.Lined up with two Boston-area crews — Northeastern and Boston University — and UMass, the Spartans saw some results from a lineup shakeup, earning wins in all three fours as well as in its varsity eight. The teams faced windy, choppy conditions on the Charles, which provided the crews plenty of distraction and some adversity.

Boston-Bound Rowers Prepare for Two Races
No. 17 Michigan State heads to the east coast to take on four of the Boston-area crews in addition to UMass in two weekend races on the Charles River.he Spartans will be rowing out of Boston University’s DeWolfe Boathouse for both day’s races. Boston University head coach Stacey Rippetoe is a former Spartan assistant under Matt Weise and spent eight years on the MSU staff, and has been the head coach of the Terriers since 2008.

Spartans Split Big Ten Double Dual
Michigan State held its first home event in 2017, welcoming Wisconsin and Minnesota for a Big Ten Double Dual on Saturday. The Spartans got strong performances from their varsity eight and novice eight once again, and finished the day with a split of the two dual races. The Spartans fell to No. 11 Wisconsin 46-22, but rebounded with an afternoon victory over Minnesota, 34-26.
