Michigan State senior Nicole Marek (Grosse Ile, Mich.) has been selected as a Pocock Honorable Mention All-American by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA). Marek becomes the 12th All-American in the Spartan rowing program.

The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) has announced its list of National Scholar-Athletes for the 2018 season. Ten Spartans were awarded this honor at the completion of the 2017-18 academic year.

MSU Eighth at Big Ten Championships
Ohio State took home gold medals in every race to win the 2018 Big Ten Championship Regatta on Sunday, May 12 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis. Michigan State finished in eighth place (47 points), as the Buckeyes won their unprecedented seventh consecutive Big Ten team championship. Michigan followed in second place with 163 points, Wisconsin finished third (118), Iowa claimed fourth (111), while Indiana rounded out the top five with 92 points. The Big Ten Network will air coverage of the Big Ten Rowing Championships on Sunday, May 20, at 11 a.m. ET.

MSU Set for Big Ten Championships
The 2017 Big Ten Rowing Championship format will be an eight-lane, finals-only championship taking place on Sunday. Racing begins on Sunday morning at 9 a.m., with racing going off on 20-minute centers. The varsity eight race is at 11 a.m., with the awards ceremony scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

MSU rowing team to meet with trustees over Nassar case
The team laid out five bullet points described as expectations it was taking to the meeting, including investigative questions, communication, justice, patient-doctor guidelines and staff training and resources. “We are questioning Michigan State University’s approach to Nassar; his criminal actions, the women he has abused, and the response of the University and athletic department,” the post read. “To say nothing is to say you agree and we do not agree with how hits has been handled.”

Spartan Rowing Completes a Productive Fall
Michigan State’s rowing program wrapped up a very productive fall season to go alongside a successful campaign for all of MSU Athletics. MSU’s fall season coincided with several impressive showings for Spartan fall teams, and rowing coach Matt Weise believes that witnessing the success of all Spartan teams helps to motivate his rowers into competing at a high level.

Student survives cancer treatment, returns to competition
Despite her diagnosis in 2014, she joined her teammates and participated in what she thought might the last race of her rowing career. Immediately after stepping off the dock she would soon be entering herself in a much different race, against Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system.
