Despite the 17-10 win over Iowa Saturday, Michigan State’s running backs were unable to make a big impact in the Spartans’ Big Ten opener. Only 40 of MSU’s 88 yards on the ground came from its tailbacks: LJ Scott, Gerald Holmes, and Madre London. The trio combined for 24 carries while quarterback Brian Lewerke led MSU’s rushing attack for the second time this season with 42 yards on 12 carries.
