Alex VanSumeren was on track to play with his older brother at Michigan. Then the 2022 four-star defensive tackle from Essexville Garber High School decommitted from the Wolverines in February 2021 and linebacker Ben VanSumeren entered the portal a day later after three seasons in Ann Arbor. The older of the two committed to Michigan State a week later as a transfer and the younger one gave a verbal pledge to the Spartans in July before signing in December.
