Malik Hall dropped his arms, then looked up in disbelief that the ball had somehow not fallen through the net. His free throw shot had just hit the front of the rim, then the back, then the front again before finally bouncing out. The miss, with 0.2 seconds left and his team down by two at the State Farm Center, ended Michigan State’s comeback hopes in its Tuesday night loss at Illinois. But the reality is that Michigan State wouldn’t have been in that position if not for Hall’s efforts.
