Two days before its first game of the season, Michigan State basketball has to cut two players out of its starting group. Associate head coach Dwayne Stephens, who has been in charge for most of the past two weeks as head coach Tom Izzo self-isolated with COVID-19, said Monday the No. 13-ranked Spartans believe they have seven starting-caliber players, and the five who will begin Wednesday’s game against Eastern Michigan have not yet been finalized.
