We don’t know what this Michigan State football team will look like this season, how competitive it’ll be. I think most folks are smart enough to have modest expectations — if any at all — for a new coach who’s inheriting a program that finished each of the last two seasons 7-6 and doesn’t have a proven quarterback, lost four all-conference-caliber defensive players and didn’t get a proper run-up to this season to put the remaining pieces together.
