Through the first six games of the year, Michigan State averaged 26.2 points and 394.5 yards of total offense. Over the final seven games, after Lewerke was injured, the Spartans averaged 12.3 points and 297.1 yards of offense. They finished the season 125th in the nation in scoring (18.7), 114th in rushing (124.8) and 116th in total offense (342.1) – all the worst totals during coach Mark Dantonio’s first 12 seasons leading the program.
