The Spartans fell from 11 to 15 in the AP poll following their 38-31 victory over Utah State.
LSU was the big riser in the poll after they defeated then-ranked 8th Miami (now 22). They climbed from 25-11. Notre Dame went from 12 to 8 following their defeat of previously 14th ranked Michigan (now 21.)
Others who climbed causing the Spartans to fall: West Virginia climbed from 17 to 14. Virginia Tech climbed from 20 to 12. Stanford went from 13-10.
The Spartans biggest advocate was Jim Alexander of the Press-Enterprise who slated the Spartans at 8. Two writers had the Spartans at 24, their lowest ranking: Eric Hansen of the South Bend Tribune and Steve Virgen of the Albuquerque Journal
