The Big Ten football awards came and went, with Michigan State just landing one player — safety David Dowell — on one of the first teams. That doesn’t diminish how far the 19th-ranked Michigan State Spartans came in a year, how well they performed in being in the race for a division title until late November. And the conference awards also do not speak to how many players made important contributions to their turnaround.
