Through the first three-plus quarters, the numbers for Michigan State’s offense were ugly. Eight punts, a fumble, a turnover on downs and one field goal. The Spartans were committed to running the ball, but had little success as Indiana stacked the box. The Hoosiers had no reason to do otherwise as Michigan State quarterback Brian Lewerke struggled with accuracy and was unable to find open receivers. “Things just weren’t clicking,” Lewerke said.
