It took two plays for Brian Lewerke to turn into Drew Stanton. On Michigan State’s first play of the season, the new starting quarterback faked an option to his left, pulled up and threw deep to Felton Davis on the post route. But the pass was underthrown, fluttering to the ground near his receiver’s feet. One play later, Lewerke took the shotgun snap, looked left, scanned back to the middle and then to the right. No one was open. So he took off running.
