In 1986, a 31-year-old Tom Izzo went to Tulsa to grow up as a coach. It didn’t last long. Because seven weeks after Izzo became a Golden Hurricane, one of the most important transactions in the history of Michigan State basketball went down when Mike Deane left Jud Heathcote’s staff to run Siena’s program. Heathcote called Izzo. Izzo came home. The rest is history.On Friday, more than 30 years after he first got there, Izzo will be back in Tulsa.
