If everything had gone according to plan, Kyle Ahrens might have sat this season out. As of the summer, Ahrens was hoping to redshirt so that he could work on his game and come back next year more prepared than ever to make an impact for Michigan State basketball. But then MSU lost big men Gavin Schilling and Ben Carter before the season even started, forcing Ahrens — a natural wing — to be a backup four for the Spartans.
