2019-20 Season in Review: Kyle Ahrens
Despite only averaging 13.1 minutes per game, Ahrens made a clear impact for the team every time he touched the court. With the loss of starting shooting guard Joshua Langford, the team went into the season missing elite-level shooting and defense on the wing. While Ahrens was never expected to replace Langford’s production, he was able to come in for limited minutes and play very solid defense and he had the best shooting season of his career at 39.3%.

Cassius Winston, Kyle Ahrens post farewells on social media
This was not the ending anyone could have pictured for Cassius Winston, one of the most beloved Michigan State basketball players of all time. Winston’s brilliant career was cut short Thursday with the cancellations of the Big Ten and NCAA tournaments, leaving the March 8 game against Ohio State as his collegiate finale. Winston and fellow seniors Kyle Ahrens, Conner George and Joshua Langford were honored that night, after the Spartans won 80-69 to finish in a three-way tie for the Big Ten championship.

‘It would mean a lot’: With title at stake, Michigan State intent on sending seniors out in glory
Michigan State will play at the Breslin Center for the final time this season when it hosts Ohio State at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. It will be a celebration, to be sure, of the careers of Cassius Winston, Kyle Ahrens, Conner George and perhaps Joshua Langford, who is still mulling his future, unsure if he’ll return next year after losing the last season-and-a-half to a foot injury.

After a couple of labored minutes at Purdue last month, it was clear. Kyle Ahrens needed a break. The fifth-year senior has been through the gauntlet during his Michigan State career. There’s been a lost season, multiple games missed and countless time in the trainer’s room. This time it was the sore Achilles that had Ahrens struggling to get up and down the court. It had been building throughout the season and now it was getting to be too much.

The play with 9:10 to go in Saturday’s Michigan State-Maryland game likely went unnoticed by all but a few in the Breslin Center. Spartans senior forward Kyle Ahrens jumped up in a crowd of three players and deflected a rebound to teammate Cassius Winston near his own hoop. Ahrens didn’t even record a statistic on the play, but it was perhaps the most important one of Ahrens’ senior season.

What seems like a never-ending injury battle continues for Michigan State fifth-year senior Kyle Ahrens. Ahrens will be out for at least the next couple of weeks, Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said on Tuesday, as he deals primarily with a sore Achilles that has affected the ankle he injured in last season’s Big Ten tournament championship game.

Near the end of the program’s media day on Tuesday afternoon, Xavier Tillman and Kyle Ahrens had a conversation that’s likely never been had between two Michigan State players. As they posed for a photo, the two exchanged notes about the wedding rings on their fingers: material, sizing, when they wear it and when they don’t. Wearing rings is new territory for the two Michigan State players, who are both still adjusting to married life.

Ahrens, George Selected to NABC Honors Court
The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced the 2018-19 NABC Honors Court on Wednesday, recognizing those men’s collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the past season. MSU was represented on the Honors Court by redshirt junior Kyle Ahrens and redshirt junior Conner George.

Tom Izzo encouraged by health of Joshua Langford, Kyle Ahrens
There were plenty of chants of “Go Green” as Izzo played in the three-hole event, which comes roughly three months after Izzo led the Spartans to the Final Four after winning the Big Ten regular-season and tournament championships. They did so without guard Joshua Langford and forward Kyle Ahrens. Izzo said both are healing quickly.
“Josh, in a week-and-a-half will start working out full, meaning shooting jump shots and all that,” Izzo said. “Everything has gone really smooth for him.
“Kyle is going full-go. He’s been full-go for about a week, so that’s encouraging.”

Bound to the bench for the most important games of Michigan State’s season, Joshua Langford and Kyle Ahrens grew closer together during their absence. Doing rehab, getting treatment and everything else required to get back to normal can be an isolating experience.

Michigan State teammates help get Ward refocused, back on right track
“They might have had the most important role of all,” Izzo said when asked Monday what Langford and Ahrens provided last weekend during first- and second-round NCAA Tournament games. “I asked both guys to spend some time with Nick on Friday. I said, ‘He’s never been through an injury like you guys have. You know how hard it is, psychologically. I don’t. I never was really injured.’
