Zach Slade didn’t see the field as a true freshman last year.And it appears the Michigan State defensive end is going to have to wait until at least 2020 to make an impact for the Spartans.“We do have a season ending injury, probably. Zach Slade, he has a surgery he has to go through,” Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio announced on Thursday morning after the Spartans had their last practice of fall camp.

Slade a former three-star prospect from Ohio, signed with Michigan State’s 2018 recruiting class along with twin brother, Jacob, a defensive tackle who played in one game last season while taking a redshirt. The spring game was the first opportunity Slade, who didn’t appear in a game last year, had to play in front of the public for the Spartans and he helped the defense to a win.

The 6-foot-4 senior will arrive on campus soon enough with his twin brother, defensive tackle Jacob Slade. Jacob Slade has 13 minutes and roughly 30 pounds on his identical twin brother, Zach, but the two-way Olentangy senior football standouts are inseparable. “We’ve been best friends, training partners and very competitive sibling rivals since we were little,” said Zach Slade, who at 6 feet 4, 240 pounds, projects as a defensive end and short-yardage running back for the Braves. Jacob (6-4, 270) will start at offensive and defensive tackle.
