“I talk to Izzo all the time,” Maxey said. “Normally, that’s the first person I talk to. I talk to him the most. He’s great, he’s funny. He’s hilarious. He’s really cool. He tells me that I can guard multiple positions, and he wants to put the ball in my hands, wants me to make plays. He has a lot of bigs committed already, so he’s been telling me I would have a point guard role, and he likes my defense and stuff.”

On Wednesday, we told you about ESPN’s updated 2018 basketball recruiting rankings. All four Michigan State commits received 4-star ratings, and three ranked in the top 100. Both numbers are higher than the 247Sports composite, which combines the ratings and rankings of multiple media recruiting services. A day later, ESPN unveiled its traditional ranking of the top 60 incoming junior players, which would be the 2019 class. Michigan State has offered four players in the class, and all appeared on the list.

In late January, coach Tom Izzo and the Spartans extended offers to a pair of top wing players in Keion Brooks (5-star prospect per the 247Sports composite rankings) and 4-star Romeo Weems. In April, they offered 4-star in-state combo guard Mark “Rocket” Watts. And on Monday, Michigan State offered a fourth member of the class: 5-star South Garland (Texas) combo guard Tyrese Maxey. The 6-foot-2 standout announced the offer about a week after visiting the East Lansing campus.
