Former Michigan State standouts Brian Allen and Trae Waynes are preparing this week for Super Bowl LVI on Sunday, Feb. 13 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is being televised on NBC. In addition to Allen, the starting center for the Rams, and Waynes, a cornerback and special teams player for the Bengals, linebacker Joe Bachie is on the reserved/injured list for Cincinnati.

Trae Waynes agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract with the Bengals early in the free agency period, but that agreement hasn’t been followed by an official contract at this point. The Bengals are waiting to formalize things until Waynes can take a physical with the team’s doctors and that wait continues even though Waynes has moved to Cincinnati ahead of his first season with the team.

Two former Michigan State Spartans – Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer and Vikings cornerback Trae Waynes – are preparing for NFL Conference Championships on Sunday, Jan. 21. Hoyer, a back-up quarterback for New England, will be looking to go to the Super Bowl for the second time with the Patriots. He also was a back-up quarterback on the Super Bowl XLVI team. New England hosts Jacksonville at 3:05 p.m. on CBS in the AFC Championship Game.

In three seasons, Waynes has evolved from underwhelming rookie first-round pick to the most improved player on the defense. He faces the toughest test of his career Sunday against Drew Brees and his cast of receivers. “[Waynes] is playing lights out,” safety Harrison Smith said. “I just don’t think he’s gotten quite enough love [in outside praise]. You obviously have Xavier and everybody knows how good he is. When you get Trae playing the way he’s playing, it’s hard to throw it around.”
