T.J. Duckett remembers the play vividly. It was Nov. 3, 2001. Michigan State trailed Michigan, 24-20, with just 1 second remaining. On the game’s final play, Duckett caught a one-yard touchdown pass in the middle of the end zone to lift MSU over the Wolverines and create one of the most famous moments in Spartan history.

T.J. Duckett closed his career at Michigan State as one of the greatest running backs in program history. Nearly two decades later, he will receive a new honor. Todd “T.J.” Duckett will be one of eight inductees in the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2018, which was announced Wednesday night. The ceremony will take place on Sept. 28 at the MotorCity Casino in Detroit.

Michigan State wasn’t part of the original conference we know as the Big Ten. The Spartans replaced the departed University of Chicago in 1949 and became a full member in football in 1953. With that in mind, Land of 10 is unveiling our selections of the top 25 Michigan State football players since the Spartans began competing in the Big Ten. TJ Duckett has had two life-changing moments at Spartan Stadium. The one everyone knows about happened in the south end zone. With one second remaining in the fourth quarter of the 2001 home game against Michigan, Duckett hauled in a two-yard game-winning touchdown pass as time expired, lifting the Spartans to a 26-24 win over the No. 5 Wolverines.
